BRING. IT. ON.

The Time poll was astonishing. Now Democratic-favorable Newsweek is set to announce the results of its own poll.

52-41 Bush lead. [margin of error +/- 4]

My beloved wife got flustered: "Won't that just give the Democrats more to get upset about...and get out the vote?" Could be. But it sure feels good (and...too good to be true). Would that the figures were reversed - perish the thought (albeit parr for the course). The MSM conventional wisdom was that there would be no bounce for either candidate. True enough for JF'n Kerry. Even as Bush pulled ahead during the convention, though, conventional wisdom stayed pretty much in place.

So how do we account for such a huge swing? From relying entirely upon the MSM, you would think it came out of thin air, that it was made from 'whole cloth'. But Newsweek and Time are not know for their conservative bent. Could be my wife's right...conspiracy? Demoralizing trap set? No way! Not in this day and time. The blogosphere would find it out...but when? After it was too late? When you are, like me, sitting in easy-chair land, far removed from the movers and shakers, what can you say but "one never knows, do one?"

In comparing the two presidential candidates, more registered voters think President Bush has strong leadership qualities than Kerry (65% vs. 47%), is more honest and ethical (62% vs. 47%), says what he believes and not just what people want to hear (66% vs. 42%), would trust him to make the right decisions during an international crisis (57% vs. 44%), shares their values (54% vs. 42%), and is personally likeable (67% vs. 59%). In addition, more registered voters think President Bush would do a better job than Sen. Kerry on various issues: terrorism and homeland security (60% vs. 32%), the situation in Iraq (55% vs. 37%), foreign policy (54% vs. 38%), taxes (52% vs. 38%), economy (49% vs. 43%), education (48% vs. 42%), and gay marriage (44% vs. 36%).

I am confident Bush's team will press the attack now. Be surprised - VERY surprised - if it does not. When the opposition is on the run, you stay hot on the floundering foe's heels. Better that Kerry gets scratched in the brambles while losing further his way, than to back off and give his campaign the opportunity to re-group (the way that Al-Sadr keeps doing in Iraq).
