An Iraqi citizen speaks
[...] I would like to direct a question to those who opposed the change. Isn’t it a wonderful thing that a whole country transfers from a totalitarian state run by an oppressive regime to a free democratic country? The results may seem unclear now to some people but the near future will show what a great change was achieved through this war. As for us, the change and success started since the 9th of April and despite all the losses and difficulties, we are unbelievably happy with our freedom and we are full of hope and belief in our future, and I’m not speaking on behalf of all Iraqis, as there are certainly many among us who are not that happy but I’m sure that this too will change sooner or later.
These are the words of Omar, one of the writers of Iraq the Model. His post refers to the first meeting of the Interim Iraqi National Conference.
Check the AP or Reuters stories on Iraq today, for the past week, for the past month. I challenge you to find the optimism expressed by Omar. Omar lives in Iraq. He has been posting for many months. Neither Omar nor his brothers deny that the going has been anything but difficult. But the difference between Omar and the MSM is his optimism. He believes that Iraq will rise from the ashes of despotism and institutionalized murder. The MSM wants to see everything the U.S. attempts to do in Iraq fail (it's good copy, and, of course, it makes W look bad).
Let's ride the tide of history for a while, shall we? Though the wind may blow, beneath it the green grass does grow.

Mr. Byrd,
I am a relatively new reader of your blogs. Please tell me and other neophytes about your frequent reference to MSM. Mass Media? Thank you my friend.

With pleasure: MSM = Main Stream Media = ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Associated Press, Reuters, British Broadcasting System, and etc.
Most of what is 'news' in print or television, will originate from one or more of the above sources. These are the 'biggies'. In years past, what you got came from them. Think 'center - left - left' of the political spectrum.
Now that you are reading blogs, you have immersed yourself in a dynamic area of the sphere of what is called the 'new media' (at least for today). When you think 'new media', in this day an time, think 'center-right' of the political spectrum. In addition to 'blogs' (of which there are legion...some of which are excellent and on par with 'professional' journalists), there is talk radio, and Fox News Network.
If Bush wins this cycle, it is safe to say that the MSM has lost, too, because its credibility has taken a mighty blow.
Cheers, Ferd, and thanks for asking.
