Moving in to the eye of the hurricane
No. Not talking about Ivan. That storm will bring destruction. I'm talking about the destruction this Presidential election will bring to the edifice of civility in America. Bush is going to win. Personally, I am happy with the anticipated outcome. When we flip to the other side of the coin, many will be not be happy. They will be enraged, and they will not have the false foothold they had in 2000. Without the cry of 'illigitimacy', I fear there will be a large segment of the population that will be left seething. Their anger will be based on nothing more than the fact they lost.
Anger's root is irrationality. The thought of a whole segment of the population fueled by anger rooted in irrationality is a dark thought.
There have been the cries - inevitable - that the campaigns have gone to ground. Negativity reigns supreme. Well, one cannot deny that the campaigns have a negative aire. I am immediately reminded of the late "Ultimate Fighting Championships". These were pay-per-view fights. They were no-holds-barred. Viewers were treated to experts in Karate, Greco-Roman wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, Kick-boxing, Boxing, Judo, and many other styles. They were vicious fights.
They all had one thing in common: The various practitioners did not prevail based upon their expertise. The fighters who survived did so on the ground. Regardless of how the bouts began, they invarioubly ended up on the ground. Viscious melees end on the ground...the fight was won there.
That is hardball politics -- a fight to the finish that takes its natural course -- straight to the ground. Presidential politics has become the eye of the hurricane.
Batten down the hatches!

And Mr. Gore gives the picture (literally--latest picture on Drudge) of one of those seeeeeeething individuals on the wrong side of the huricane gone unhinged.
I was pumping gas into my old girl today when some fellow at a pump several islands over started yelling "John Kerry, John Kerry" as he looked at me. I just kept pumping my gas. When he wasn't getting a rise from me, he said "I saw your bumper sticker." I said "that's nice." He said "Bush may win, but no Republican will win four years from now if he wins this election." As I drove off, I said in the best hyperboly I could muster (bored with the exchange), "with President Bush, at least we'll still have a country."

He he! I saw that Gore picture on Drudge and immediately saved it to disk! What a classic 'unhinged Gore'.
Interesting about the 'Kerry Kerry!' exchange, because you know the state of discourse in this country will get no better after the election. 2008 will loom large before W's second inauguration.
Political afficianados will anticipate '08 like a junkie anticipates that next hit of smack coursing through his veins.

Don't mean to sterotype, but my general impression from the Clinton and now Kerry supporters I have met is that they wholeheartedly endorse their "Partyboy" regardless and have only evil men things to say about ANY republican. To the contrary, I have found republicans to more objectively view things, recognizing the good/ faults of the republican candidate and recognizing the good/faults of the democratic candidate. Just MY observation. Could be wrong, but, I cannot stand to listen to democrats as they appear to me SO BIASED as to transcend the limits of beleivability - kinda like the Arab world.
