Turbojet momentum

Thanks to 'anonymous Ferd' for pointing out this Blogs v. 60 Minutes piece from Tech Central Station. Read it. It is an excellent recap of the lightning developments of "Rathergate", as of much earlier in the day.

The botched nature of the alleged forgeries has made for easy pickings. The subject matter is ...what?...geeky? No. I do not consider myself a geek, but I have penchant for fonts. To some degree I have an interest in the non-technical aspects of proportional fonts and 'kerning'. However, there are lots of people who have a finely honed fascination for the stuff. Add them to the blogosphere, and you get hyperactive detectives.

Within 24-hours, this story has already exploded into the MSM (AP). None of it can help Kerry, especially with the allegation that it was his camp that set this in the laps of CBS and Dan Rather.

UPDATE: Longtime Democratic strategist Pat Caddellfears this flap may have cost the Democrats the race, and then some.

"[Democratic officials are] so involved in this," the former Carter pollster worried. "They have gotten themselves so involved in this issue [in] the last 24 hours that somebody's going to, if they're not authentic, they're going to be blamed for it. It's incredible to me that they've gotten in this."

Caddell said he wasn't trying to sensationalize the issue, explaining that instead "I'm trying to save my party, you know, by telling the truth."

ADDENDUM: Lest we forget, just yesterday Sidney Blumenthal was widely quoted as saying "Now it's Bush's turn to squirm." It could easily turn out to be as famous a quip as "Dewey Defeats Truman". Time will tell!
