Sip and Stick
Scot LeHigh, writing in Kerry's hometown paper, calls the Cheney Edwards debate a draw. The first point he makes is that Dick Cheney turned in a performance 'far superior' to his boss, expecially in the foreign affairs/terror arena. The barely veiled implication is that Edwards, too, could eat W's lunch in a debate.
"Although neither man can claim a clear win, Edwards may have reduced any perceived stature gap."
If you saw the same debate I did, then all you manage is to grin and roll your eyes at that pronouncement. After Bush/Kerry I, the Dems taught me to pay more attention to facial expressions and mannerisms. Did you notice how John Edwards had a tendency to stick out his tongue each time he took a sip from his blue coffee mug? His effete mannerism, and gestures with his smallish hands didn't do much to give me confidence in his being 'a heartbeat away' from the Presidency.
Edwards is obviously an extradinary medical malpractice lawyer. He is very capable of taking command of his subject and being persuasive before a jury of twelve. That said, a jury does not a nation make!
